COMPANY HISTORY

United Structural Works, Inc. was founded in 2005 by Stephen Reid and Cormach Murrihy, who sought to fill a perceived gap in the market. In the beginning, the business was primarily based on steel fabrication and erection for steel buildings in New York City. Expansion of the facilities became essential as the business grew and, in 2007, USW moved its operations to Congers in Rockland County, New York. Within a short period of time, the business had outgrown its original lease of 10,000 square feet. While other businesses recoiled from the conditions of the economic downturn of the time, USW saw an opportunity to expand.

In May 2010, utilizing SBA and Empire Zone incentives, the company moved to a new 6.5 acre/ 63,000 square foot location in Congers, consolidating operations once in separate offices into one space. The new location allowed USW room for future expansion, and a large capital investment was spent furthermore on top-of-the-line drilling, burning and bending equipment, which allowed the company to take on larger and more complex projects.

In 2018, USW saw further expansion of its facilities to encompass120,000 square feet, and now includes two automated facilitieswhere all of the BIM shop drawings are fully networked and integrated with the equipment, enabling the highest accuracy of fabrication and consequent minimal downtime in the field.Today, USW continues to prosper with a growing clientele and an expansive portfolio of projects. These projects include work for high profile clients such as Facebook, Amazon, Google, Bank of America, Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), the NYPD, the Long Island Rail Road, and Hudson Yards.
